HSS Student Buddy scheme

This year, the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences are offering Student Buddies! The Student Buddy scheme is designed to provide 1:1 support for any new starters who might benefit from additional assistance during Welcome Week. It is available for all students across our HSS Faculty but in particular, learners who identify as having a neurodivergence or an accessibility requirement.

Buddies will be easily identifiable from their T-shirts (which will say ‘HSS Student Buddy’) and will be on site across Luton, Bedford and Aylesbury campuses on various dates during Welcome Week.

If you would like some buddy support, there are a few ways to make contact:

  1. At the Head of School welcome on day 1, you will be able to meet the buddies during the morning session.
  2. There will be HSS Student Buddy flyers available which will have the relevant contact information for each School.

Here are some examples of how the HSS Student Buddies can support you:

  • Help you find your way around campus.
  • Be a friendly face if you are feeling nervous or worried about being somewhere new.
  • Take you to a one of the designated Quiet Spaces where you can do some relaxing activities or just sit somewhere a little less busy.
  • Talk to you about being a student on campus and help you feel more comfortable with these new surroundings.
  • Explain what is happening during the Welcome event and introduce you to other people on your course.

The Buddy Scheme is new for 2024 and we are really delighted to have some wonderful student volunteers to support our new cohorts in Health and Social Sciences.
