Media, Marketing & Public Relations student, Fleur O’Brien, shares her story and advice for prospective students…
I am studying Media, Marketing and Public Relations and will be entering my second year in September 2024.
My favourite part of being a student at the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ is getting to meet lots of people from all around the world, I love that the University is so diverse!
I am loving using the free gym at the University. I am always there trying different activities; I have been attending yoga classes every week which has been amazing at helping me relax when I am struggling from any stresses that come with being a university student.
I am also a weekly host on the University’s radio station – . It’s been such an amazing experience having a platform to express myself within the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ and it is such a fun way to meet new people!
I still don’t 100% know what specific career I want to go into; however, I do know I want to work within the media industry.
My university lecturers have been so supportive at providing me work experience, which has been amazing for my CV.Ìý Thanks to all the opportunities provided to me by the University, I have been able to network with so many different people within the media world, which has been great for me as I have been able to ask them for their advice and see what roles suit me best.
I would recommend students try and reach out to other students that you know who are currently studying the course that you are interested in to get a real response on what life is like for a student getting that degree. I also recommend attending as many open days as possible for any course you may be interested in. Even if there’s a subject you like but don’t think you’ll study, I recommend checking out all the open days for courses that you’re even the tiniest bit interested in as you never know you could change your mind – that’s what I did!
