Student launches 鈥楬atters Hour鈥 radio show for Luton Town FC
Mon 04 November, 2024A first year Sports Journalism student from the 亚色视频 is celebrating after being given the opportunity to host a weekly FM radio show covering his beloved Luton Town Football Club.
24 year old Liam Wilmot from Stopsley in Luton, only joined the BA Sports Journalism course this September but thanks to the University鈥檚 official education partnership with Luton Town FC, he is already booking in interviews with a range of exciting guests for his brand new Hatters Hour show on the campus-based, award-winning FM and digital station Radio LaB.
The former Ashcroft High School and Luton Sixth Form College pupil has been a Luton Town season ticket holder for over a decade so he is pinching himself that he now has his own show every Wednesday covering all things Hatters. Content will cover the men鈥檚 first team, the women鈥檚 team and the football club鈥檚 academy, with guests discussing general news about the club and how it鈥檚 progressing both on and off the pitch.
Liam said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 surreal to think I am hosting my own radio show all about my childhood club. To be working on something I鈥檓 so passionate about so early on in my studies is the exact reason why I chose to come to the 亚色视频 in the first place.鈥
He continued: 鈥淪tarting at Bedfordshire was initially quite a daunting thought but I鈥檝e quickly come to love the excitement of university life and I鈥檓 pushing myself to improve as many of my professional prospects as possible while studying.鈥
Liam鈥檚 new show further strengthens 鈥檚 schedule, after the station was nominated this October for two more Community Radio Awards for its coverage of BBC Radio 1鈥檚 Big Weekend in Luton and an outreach project called Ampthill Past Memories.
Jon Boyle, course leader for BA Sports Journalism, added: 鈥淟iam鈥檚 new radio show is just the latest in a long line of exciting opportunities that our students are taking advantage of since the 亚色视频 became the official education partner of Luton Town FC.
鈥淭he students have reported live on Premier League matches at Kenilworth Road in the past year and we have been able to bring in manager Rob Edwards and goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski for a press conference hosted at the University, among other events, so it鈥檚 a really exciting time to study here.鈥
He finished: 鈥淚 think Liam was surprised that he was given the opportunity to host his Hatters Hour show just a week after joining the course but this is what Bedfordshire is all about 鈥 giving our students plenty of real-life industry opportunities to help them succeed in their future careers.鈥
You can listen to the Hatters Hour every Wednesday from 2pm-3pm on Radio LaB by tuning in to 97.1FM across Bedfordshire, or digitally .
