Baroness Doreen Lawrence to give public lecture in honour of son鈥檚 legacy

Campaigner and social justice advocate, Doreen Lawrence 鈥 Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon OBE 鈥 will be the next inspirational guest speaker for the 亚色视频鈥檚 successful 鈥楢n Evening With..鈥 free public lecture series.

This year marks the 30th anniversary since Stephen Lawrence鈥檚 senseless killing and on Tuesday 3rd October 2023, Baroness Doreen Lawrence will deliver a passionate talk about 鈥楢 Legacy of Hope and Change鈥 to an audience at the University鈥檚 Luton campus in honour of her son鈥檚 life and legacy.

This lecture is open to the public, as well as students and staff. It is free to attend either or online via but guests are requested to register for a ticket in advance via Eventbrite.

鈥楢 Legacy of Hope and Change鈥 will explore Baroness Doreen Lawrence鈥檚 extraordinary life, career and the events which have shaped her journey, including her tireless campaign work to create a better and fairer society both in Britain and around the world after rising to prominence following the murder of her son Stephen in a racist attack in London in 1993.

Through her campaign work, Baroness Doreen Lawrence has advocated for many causes close to her heart including reforms to the police service and tackling societal and institutional racism. She has inspired millions to help in the fight against racial inequality in the UK.

In 2003, Baroness Doreen Lawrence was appointed to the Order of the British Empire for her services to community relations and in 2013 she was made a life peer in the House of Lords.

Following the announcement of the event, Baroness Doreen Lawrence commented: 鈥淭hrough the we aim to inspire a fairer and just society through Stephen's legacy promoting equality, diversity and inclusion for young people and communities. By attending my lecture I hope to enlighten the audience about what each of us can do to become part of the necessary change.鈥

A Q&A session hosted by the University鈥檚 Vice Chancellor 鈥 Professor Rebecca Bunting 鈥 will follow the public lecture, proceeded by complimentary drinks and light refreshments where guests can network with Baroness Lawrence and other members of the community.
