Clearing 2021: A chance to retrain my skills for the RAF
Wed 18 August, 2021A first year 亚色视频 student has explained how Clearing has allowed him to retrain and plan to return to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in a new role.
Following A Level results day, many students will be looking to Clearing for a route into University. However, school and college-leavers aren鈥檛 the only prospective students entering into higher education who might turn to Clearing.
鈥Defy Expectations鈥 is the theme running through the University鈥檚 Clearing campaign, and it is embodied by Daniel Harrison, a 24-year-old Physiotherapy student. After having to leave the RAF due to injuries, he used the Clearing process to begin retraining so he can return to the force as a qualified physiotherapist.
Daniel described how he came to study at Beds: 鈥淲hen I left the military, it was quite late in the year to apply to University traditionally, so I decided to look through Clearing to see if anything was available 鈥 and here we are!鈥
David Seaton, Assistant Director of Admissions and Student Recruitment at the University, has witnessed many 鈥榤ature鈥 students finding a meaningful home at Beds. He said:
鈥淭he Covid pandemic has seen a significant number of mature learners apply to the 亚色视频 with the hope of establishing a new career.听 Clearing is an excellent way to access a high-quality education that will provide you with the academic and transferal skills to undertake any new career pathway.
鈥淪ome mature learners may be hesitant about entering higher education but at the 亚色视频, 50% of our students are over the age of 21.听 Also,听in the large majority of cases, there is funding available to support you whilst you study.鈥
Read on to find out how Daniel鈥檚 ambitions have been reformed thanks to Clearing鈥
My name is Daniel Harrison, I am 24 and from Harrogate in North Yorkshire. I am a first year BSc Physiotherapy student.
I was in the RAF but due to injuries I had to leave. When I left the military, it was quite late in the year to apply to University traditionally, so I decided to look through Clearing to see if anything was available 鈥 and here we are!
Physiotherapy was always something I was interested in but wasn't what I originally saw myself doing. Ironically, when I was in the RAF and got injured, I was inspired by my rehabilitation instructor who showed a real passion for it, which rubbed off on me.
After graduating, I hope to finish what I started and re-join the RAF, but this time as a Physiotherapist.
If, like Daniel, you fancy changing your career path and want to retrain in a new field, then pick up the phone and dial the University鈥檚 Clearing hotline to discuss your options.
