First open day of the year
Thu 25 September, 2014More than 2,300 people got a taste of university life today (Wednesday 24th September) when the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ opened its doors to potential students for the first Open Day of the year.
Students from institutions across the South East including Barnfield Academy, Hastingsbury Business & Enterprise College , The Bridge Academy, and the City of Westminster College, had the opportunity find out about the courses available at the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ.
After being welcomed to the University by Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell and Deputy Vice Chancellor Mary Malcolm, prospective students could look around the state-of-the-art facilities at the University's Luton or Bedford campuses.
There was also the chance to listen to talks on the subject they were interested in by an academic, as well as ones on student finance – with reminders there are no up-front fees, and that the University offers some of the best bursaries in the country.
One-to-one sessions were also available, with prospective students able to get a deeper understanding of what each subject covers.
Bill Rammell, Vice Chancellor at the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ said:
"With the University still accepting places for potential students coming through Clearing, the Open Day was a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is still yet to decide on where to study for the 2014/15 academic year. For the many hundreds of young people, who will begin their studies in 2015/16, it was a vital opportunity for them to appreciate what is on offer at Bedfordshire.
"We were delighted with the amount of people in attendance for the Open Day today and we look forward to welcoming many back to the University to begin their studies."
During his talk to prospective students and parents, Mr Rammell explained the transformational benefits of going to university, with Bedfordshire offering incredible volunteering opportunities, summer school visits to China, and employability ratings showing 92% of students go in to work within six months of graduation.
"At the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ we value students as partners," he added.
"The student experience is our highest priority and we are immensely proud that this is recognised through this year's National Student Survey.
"We are now ranked first for improving the student experience."
