Success Stories from our Students
Christopher Hahne
In my final year as a PhD candidate I got contacted by BASF in Ludwigshafen (Germany), which is the largest producer for chemical products in the world. At BASF, I am working for a spin-off named trinamix GmbH that was founded in 2015 to pioneer the field of adaptive 3-D sensing. Here, I am currently in charge of tasks related to optical imaging including lens model simulation and image processing that help enhance our cutting edge technology.
Dr Wei Li
Dr Wei Li started his PhD鈥檚 study in 2011. And his topic of optimization for physical layer of 4G/beyond 4G wireless communication. During his PhD, he has enjoyed researching into wireless communication systems. He thoroughly investigated into broad range of topics in wireless system: PHY standards, RF subsystem modelling, amplifier distortion, phase noise, I/Q imbalance, measurements etc. Thanks to the cooperation between UoB and the wireless test instrument company Aeroflex, he obtained a solid background in wireless communication field. In Aeroflex, he worked closely with all Algos Group members and largely unsupervised, adapted quickly to the new role. he studied deeply into LTE system, Aeroflex PXI and TM500 product line and conducted research by combining theoretical knowledge with Aeroflex instruments. He also developed a diode-based RF impairments calibration scheme for PXI 3050A/3320 which is low cost and could potentially bring changes to the transmitter architecture. And this original approach has been published in Electronics Letters. He also developed new equalizer, noise estimation and interference cancellation algorithms. As a result, a series of papers have been published in high impact factor journals and conferences. Thanks to the collaboration between UoB and Aeroflex, he obtained solid knowledge about wireless communication, which makes me core competency in the job market. In 2015, he obtained his PhD and started work as an algorithm engineer with Cobham wireless.
Dr Yu Hou
Dr Yu Hou, awarded with PhD by the 亚色视频 in 2016, is now senior engineer (Associated Professor) of Instrumentation Development Centre, Research Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Director of Laser Laboratory of Zhongke Leite Electronic Ltd. His research focuses on micro-/nano-manufacturing and the development of laser manufacturing technology for semi-conductor materials. He has been the Principal Investigators of China Post-doctorial Fund project, Beijing Natural Science Fund project and China Natural Science Fund project, and the Co-Investigator for Chinese Special Scientific and Technological Research Programme projects and Beijing Science Committee Fund Programme projects. The total research funding he obtained is over 300 million RMB (about 40 million GBP). Dr Hou has currently 12 patents in the areas of micro-/nano-manufacturing and laser techniques.
