Harmful Sexual Behaviours in Boys

The Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB) in Boys project is a two-year qualitative research study funded by Pilgrim Trust. The research aims to extend knowledge of key factors which influence harmful sexual behaviours in boys aged 10 – 18. We seek to contribute to improving policy and practice in prevention and intervention strategies and responses.

A distinct feature of the research is that we are seeking to engage with young people, parents and carers and professionals in this highly sensitive area. This is against the backdrop of an absence of studies that engage with the lived experiences of children and young people in cases where young people have been identified as having sexually harmed other children and young people. We also wish to extend knowledge of the experience of families where a young person has been involved in HSB. We know from established evidence that drawing on lived experience can help us to improve prevention and interventions. This can contribute to young people, parents and carers working together with professionals to address and prevent harm.
