Luke Joines, Graduate
BA Sport and Physical Education, 2015-2018

Since graduating from the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ with a BA (Hons) in Sport and Physical Education degree, the last six months I have been working at an American Summer Camp in the state of Maine. The YMCA Camp of Maine is a Co-Ed traditional Summer Camp in the Maine woods for children aged 8-16.

I have been working for this organisation for 4 years now, attending during summer vacation from university studies. My role for the past two summers has been the ‘Leadership in Training’ Director. This is a position at camp responsible for developing leadership in children and teaching the responsibilities and requirements of becoming a counsellor.

As of March 2019, I will begin a new journey at camp as I have been awarded an amazing opportunity to work ‘all year round’ and because of my degree this dream has been made possible. This new role will enable me to discover the operations required to manage an organisation of this size. Some of my new responsibilities will include fiscal management, recruiting staff, staff and camper management, parent relations, traveling and many more aspects.

My aim is to continuing pursuing a career as a Summer Camp Professional and one day be a camp director living and working in the United States of America permanently.
