Kathryn Nethercott

My research interests are in the areas of children, young people and families, as well as, professional working in the areas of inter-professional working and communication. Specifically in the areas of how professionals working with children, young people and their families engage with social care processes. I also research the experiences of Teaching Assistants across all sectors of education. This is as well as, the experiences of Higher Education students, how they access support, retention and continuation of students.

Before taking a teaching position I worked as the Lead Researcher for a local charity, Family Matters Institute. Here I conducted and contributed to a number of different research projects, funded by local authorities and the DCSF. I also provided level two and three training for practitioners working in Children's Centres and for the local authority.

My PhD research focused on frontline professionals' use of the Common Assessment Framework, how their experience of this and multi-agency working is affected by local authority interventions, professional identity and professional training.
