In Culture and Communications, you learn your craft from an experienced team of industry professionals, using high-spec, industry-standard facilities and equipment. We bring the creative industries to you with regular opportunities to meet visiting experts, from practising journalists to published writers. You also get the chance to combine your skills and creativity producing your own work.
Journalism students learn to write in-depth think pieces as well as pithy podcasts and social-media campaigns. Radio students gain real work experience broadcasting on our community radio service, RadioLaB. We prepare you to be a confident, skilled professional, ready to hit the ground running in an ever-evolving, fast-paced industry.
Our Spaces
This is a facility dedicated to news programming. There is a small TV set with lighting and two cameras, a radio news booth and a transmission gallery.
At the 亚色视频 you have the opportunity to gain experience presenting or producing a radio show on our own award-winning community radio station, Radio LaB 97.1 FM.
The creative arts have a dedicated floor at the Luton Campus that features a wide range of books and magazines, with more books being added to the collection every year. Our students have an option to suggest new publications for purchase.
Collaboration and real industry experience are essential in the creative industries, so you will benefit both from working with students on other courses as well as from a wide range of extracurricular opportunities through the year 鈥 covering events on and off campus, visiting media institutions and companies in London and elsewhere, supporting cultural projects with local schools, and finding work experience. We support our students from year one to be aware of the job market and the skills necessary to be 鈥渨ork-ready鈥.
We are a diverse University with a widening participation agenda, and we believe in the transformative potential of education. Our students come from different backgrounds and have varied interests, which we acknowledge and support. Our staff are excellent teachers 鈥 we have a very solid sustained record through our teaching evaluations and how we support our students through small group teaching and excellent feedback. Many of our staff have industry backgrounds and/or are research active.
Living and studying in Luton
Luton town is packed full of cultural diversity. It has plenty of bars and restaurants, an 11-screen cinema, bowling lanes, a shopping mall and indoor market, football stadium and other sports facilities, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene based around the Cultural Quarter.
There are excellent transport links to the rest of the UK and Europe. Luton lies just 50km north of London - the capital is only a 30 minute train journey away. In addition, London Luton Airport is only 2.5km from the main Luton campus.
Luton鈥檚 surrounding area boasts a wealth of parks and open spaces including ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable Downs, Wardown Park and Luton Hoo stately home.
