Our Spaces
The studio is designed in a way that allows you to mix natural and flash-light, or to shoot completely under artificial light. It is equipped with a built-in infinity curve, backdrops and professional lighting.
Guildford Street Press is the School’s inhouse design studio, run for and by graduates and students.
A new 3D workshop equipped with tools and benches together with a laser cutter able to cut or engrave your designs on a large range of material, from paper to Perspex. A 3D printer, a digital pattern cutting, CNC machine, and variety of saws and drills.
Expansive studio space with cutting tables, digital pattern cutting, industrial and specialist sewing machines that replicates that of industry.
Fully equipped with three-point lighting, Dragonframe software, cameras, tripods, C-stands and coloured gels for you to create industry standard animations.
Extensive screen printing facilities including variety of materials for diverse analogue printing techniques. With six screen printing beds and selection of screen sizes the studio offers possibilities to print on textile, wood, paper and further range of materials.
Spacious and fully equipped black and white darkroom with enlargers able to develop various formats from start to finish.
Wide range of options in year 1 and 2
In your first year, lectures, seminars, studio based teaching and, one-to-one tutorials introduce you to a wide range of skills and practices in art and design. Our Key Skills programme, which runs in year one and two, gives you access to a range of skills from which to choose from - including silkscreen printing,Computer Aided Design, life and technical drawing, printmaking, laser cutting and 3D modelling, typography, pattern cutting, and photography. (The list of skills expands each year as we respond to the needs of employers and the industry you hope to work for).
The skills and thinking you learn in your first year help develop your confidence, personal style and thinking; allowing you to enter the second year, full of ideas and creative know-how.
Presenting your work to public
All your hard work comes to fruition at the end of the third year in a nerve-wracking but exhilarating public graduation show. Here you are given the opportunity to present your work to the public, friends and family, and prospective employers in a curated show of your final project.
There will be many other opportunities (and skills) made available to you during the course, which will help you develop into a professional, employable and creative practitioner.
All our undergraduate programmes have strong relationships with the creative industries, and all provide an inspiring, empowering and enjoyable route to reaching the ultimate attainment in your career aspirations.
Living and studying in Luton
Luton town is packed full of cultural diversity. It has plenty of bars and restaurants, an 11-screen cinema, bowling lanes, a shopping mall and indoor market, football stadium and other sports facilities, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene based around the Cultural Quarter.
There are excellent transport links to the rest of the UK and Europe. Luton lies just 50km north of London - the capital is only a 30 minute train journey away. In addition, London Luton Airport is only 2.5km from the main Luton campus.
Luton’s surrounding area boasts a wealth of parks and open spaces including ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable Downs, Wardown Park and Luton Hoo stately home.
