Higher Technical Qualifications
We pride ourselves on offering up-to-the-minute, industry-relevant courses, helping employers and employees prepare for the future. We also believe in widening students’ choices when it comes to higher education.
Higher Technical Qualifications join our Apprenticeship and Foundation Degree courses in extending student choice by providing a more practical, skills-based path to a rewarding career.
What are Higher Technical Qualifications?
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are either new or existing Level 4 and 5 qualifications (such as HNDs, Foundation Degrees or Diploma HE) that have been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education as meeting occupational standards for the relevant sector such as IT, construction or healthcare.
These qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers and businesses to make sure students get the training, knowledge and skills they need for their chosen career.
Which Higher Technical Qualifications do we offer?
Who are HTQs for?
- HTQs are for students who are over 18, who are looking to study a subject to prepare them for a specifically skilled job in a particular sector, such as IT, construction, or healthcare. However, HTQs are also suitable for mature students looking to retrain or upskill in their current job role.
- HTQs would suit you if you are looking for a more practical, employer-led qualification, with less emphasis on academic
- Although HTQs are largely focused on providing you with entry into skilled employment or helping you to retrain or upskill, they can also be used as a launchpad into further study or training.
How will I study for HTQs?
- Unlike an apprenticeship, HTQs are predominantly taught in the classroom, whether teaching takes place in a further education college, university or independent training provider.
- HTQs don't usually involve industry placements like you would have on an apprenticeship. Instead you learn practical skills via dedicated workshops or simulated workplaces.
How will they help me in my career path?
- HTQs offer a high-quality alternative to other popular routes into a career such as apprenticeships, traineeships or degrees, producing graduatesÌýwho are ‘work ready’ with the skills employers are looking for.
- They can lead to employment within high-skilled, well-paid jobs in a range of sectors, giving you a head start in your chosen career.
