STEM Teaching Labs
Welcome to our STEM Building
The University's STEM Building was officially opened by Lord Robert Winston on Tuesday 17th September 2019.
The School of Computer Science occupies two floors of the new STEM building, comprising eight labs.
D002
Is a Construction Management lab that is equipped with 20 HP computers.
Each computer having:
- Intel core i9 processors
- 8GB Ram
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX Graphics
D003
Is a Laser and Optics lab. With a seating capacity of 24.
D006
This room is for Mechatronics and Electronic Engineering and is equipped with:
- Six solder stations and extractors
- Construction work benches
D007
Is an Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Lab.
Equipped for Mechanical Engineering and Automotive teaching:
- Intel core i5 processors
- 8 GB RAM
D008
Is a Mechatronics and Physics lab, equipped with 24 computers.
Each computer having:
- Intel core i5 processors
- 8 GB RAM
D009
Is a Machine Workshop and Product Design lab. Also known as a Makers lab. The lab provides both traditional subtractive manufacturing, that is machines that cut material to produce a component, e.g.
- Lathes
- Mills
- Drills
- Saws
This Makers Lab also has additive manufacturing, that is machines that add material to produce a component
- 3D printers
D101
Is a General Teaching Lab, equipped with 47 computers.
Each computer having:
- Intel core i5 processors
- 8 GB RAM
D102/D103
These rooms are General Teaching labs, each room is equipped with 71 computers. These labs have the facility to be joined, making a large teaching area comprising 142 computers.
Each computer having:
- Intel core i7 processors
- 16 GB RAM
D104
Is a General Teaching lab, equipped with 46 computers.
Each computer having:
- Intel core i7 processors
- 16 GB RAM
D105/D106/D107
These rooms are purpose built study hubs. For use by students for either their individual or group studies.
Two study hubs have capacity for six students and one has capacity for four students. Each with a large screen monitor which students can connect to using a laptop. Each station is equipped with USB and power sockets are on the desk.
