What will you study?


Studying our Management MSc course will equip you with the in-depth knowledge and skills to engage in the strategic, effective and tactical management of local and international businesses. You will be able to practice core management skills such as in collaboration, teamwork, numeracy, negotiation, problem-solving and research in diverse business environments to deal with diverse management challenges. To enhance your transition to the industry, our unit in Management Theory and Practice will provide you with an opportunity for experiential learning. Here, you will be able to build on your personal, interpersonal and business skills to improve your professional working practice and increase your employability. In addition, this unit will allow you to examine contemporary management theories and practice in light of real-world business issues.

Building on this, our unit in Global Human Resource Management will develop your skills and knowledge in key business areas, including equipping you with an understanding of the global business environment and its impact on human resource management (HRM) practices. You will learn to lead and manage diverse teams in various geographical locations while enriching your HR specialist knowledge in areas of global talent management, international employment law, cultural communication and global HRM. At the same time, you will learn to provide strategic HR advice, engage in stakeholder management and consultancy services in a global context.

Aside from this, you will consider a prevalent element in the field of management – sustainability. Business Sustainability in Practice will expose you to business impacts on the natural environment while allowing you to consider how these impacts can be managed to improve the environmental sustainability of large and small businesses to meet its obligations – such as transition to net or zero greenhouse gas emissions or other pollutants. You will also be introduced to the concept of environmental management systems and the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) that will allow you to enhance your management skills and assess business and management practices to develop strategic and operational opportunities to embed sustainability more deeply throughout an organisation.

Furthermore, you will develop a critical and informed understanding of business environments and the business opportunities within them in our Strategy unit. Here, you will be introduced to a range of tools and concepts for strategic analysis and business modelling that will allow you to assess the strategic position of business organisations, formulate strategies, evaluate options and implement strategic decisions. Finally, you will complete our Capstone unit that will allow you to bring theory and practice together and research a topic of your interest that is relevant to your field of study. To help you with this, you will be introduced to the processes and techniques of research methods while working with a research supervisor to develop your ideas.

How will you be assessed?


The assessment strategy for this course is designed in a way that will contribute to student development and will help them achieve their goals and enhance their employability. An essential element of this process is that feedback will be provided in due time so it is integrated in the learning process.

When group work is required the marks given will be individual following the ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ's regulatory scheme. The different kinds of assessment are listed below and in some cases they will be used in combination making sure however that there are no hidden tasks.

In addition to the assessment strategies followed in each Unit student knowledge and skills will be also formatively assessed through problem solving sessions or case study discussions in order to ensure that development of their comprehension of the underlying concepts is appropriate to the level of studies and continuously supports the overall student achievement. A full list of how each Unit will be assessed is presented in the previous section.

The Universitys Learning Resources provide a 'Study Hub' where you can improve your assignment grades by accessing free professional support to develop a wide range of relevant and valuable academic skills. Three teams of specialists: Academic Liaison Librarians Computer Skills Trainers and Professional and Academic Development (PAD) Tutors can help you develop your academic skills and improve your assignment writing and preparation techniques; leading to better grades and enhanced employability.

Learn what information you need for your assignments how to find it and assess if it's relevant and reliable. Then use the techniques you have discovered to manage your time effectively and improve your academic writing style or your presentation skills. You will find a wide range of online guides to help you. These cover key areas for success such as library resources referencing academic writing maths study skills and how to optimise your use of Microsoft Office products.

Each unit will help you to develop your skills in locating using and managing resources for your academic study. There are nine units in total for you to work through at your own pace and you can come back at any time to repeat or refresh. Ideally you should do the tutorials in order building on your skills and knowledge as you complete each one. However the package has been designed so that you can dip in and out of each unit as required.

The intensive character of this Course's delivery as it is outlined in its Teaching and Learning philosophy is consistent with the needs of todays world for graduates who accumulate knowledge fast and are able to express the outcome of this process in a way that is meaningful and comprehensive.

After induction a week of intensive direct contact time followed by students own contribution through individual learning will take them to the first assessment point. The process will repeat and at the end of the six-week block the final assessment will be due. This will be a demanding but very rewarding experience.

As mentioned above the MSc management is designed to develop a number of transferable skills which along with the knowledge and understanding of the relevant theories and concepts will provide our graduates with all those abilities required for a successful career.

The different methods used to assess student performance are designed to evaluate the following: Research and literature review skills data handling application numeracy computer literacy ability to contextualize and evaluate presentation skills and professionalism and collaboration.
